THE HUNGER GAMES

Project focused on designing a cover jacket for the top selling novel by Suzanne Collins. The cover needed to reflect a major theme or  idea within the story. I started my process by rewatching The Hunger Games film series for visual inspiration and research. Using the strong themes within the story  (violence, wealth, power, compassion, and reality tv), I played around with symbolic imagery to represent them.

I actively avoided overused symbols (Katniss's bow, President Snow's rose) in the story so as to not end up falling into a cliche trap. I chose an uncomplicated design to give my cover a refined feeling to it. My thinking was to pull from one of the few positive themes in the story, compassion. A theme often overlooked since a majority of the story deals with negative issues. Adding a shiny golden crown and a marble texture for the background was a way of giving the cover a polished look, in reference to the themes of wealth and living in luxury (citizens of capital & the president).
